WordPress security is a layered process. Reliable updates, strong authentication, least-privilege access, backups, and monitoring reduce the risk of a single mistake becoming a major incident.

Keep WordPress and plugins updated

Apply trusted updates on a consistent schedule. Remove abandoned plugins and themes that are no longer required.

Protect administrator accounts

Use strong unique passwords, multi-factor authentication where available, and separate administrator accounts from routine content editing accounts.

Use least-privilege access

Give each user only the permissions they need. Review old users and collaborators regularly.

Maintain tested backups

Backups should exist in more than one location and should be tested through a restore process. A backup that cannot be restored is not a reliable recovery plan.

Monitor and harden the site

Use a reputable security plugin or hosting controls, monitor suspicious activity, and review login and admin events when something looks unusual.

Practical note: Treat these points as a repeatable checklist. Measure the site, make one meaningful change, and verify the result before moving to the next item.
